HVAC decision time. Let's see, so many choices: heat pump, electric resistance heating, propane...?How do two engineers decide what the best (cheapest) option is? Why an EXCEL spreadsheet of course. (Did you really expect something different?)

And the winner is.....(drumroll).. the heat pump. Yup. That's what the excel spreadsheet says is the cheapest overall, and that's what most people have in this neck 'o the woods. Go figure.

Kevin is getting an HVAC contractor lined up today to install a system in our house. He is also calling to set up our framing inspection (ooohhh...aahhh....). We're not sure if the framing inspection needs to get done before or after all the systems (plumbing, hvac...etc) are installed, but I guess we'll find out today.

Yesterday Kevin worked just about all day on some odds 'n ends. Finishing framing a closet, installing the hurricane strips, etc. Slowly but surely we'll get there.

Comment Grandpa, I have my doubts about ever getting hit by a hurricane here. Kevin says its possible though, so he wants to make sure the roof stays on. I figure this is just one consequence of marrying into a family that is used to building houses in Florida:) It may not be a pretty house, but it'll be strong:)

Comment What are the hurricane strips? Are you building in a hurricane belt? When did your area last suffer damage by a hurricane?

Comment Good job on posting Dad. Nice. And yes, the brilliant googlebots choose which text ads appear along the side of the page. I think its neat, but I really have no control over what ads appear, so I guess I should be careful what I type:) (odor elimination? I dunno....we're kinda smelly after working all day.....) And to whomever posted about Kevin doing all the work, believe me, there are some days I wish I could skip my job and help Kevin. One of us has to make some money....:)

Comment Oops. Sorry about the triplicate post. I tried to go back to the main page by using the back button. It wouldn't work so I hit refresh. Twice.

Comment Did you ever notice how the sponsor ads on the right tend to be tied to the content of the latest post? I am trying to figure out why 2 of them were about odor elimination.
