Blogin' it. - My first house.

November 29, 2005 - tuesday

Happy Thanksgiving!

I had a wonderful thanksgiving break. Very relaxing (until the drive home anyway). I got to visit with almost everyone I wanted to see over the weekend. Plus I got a free turkey from work before I left. Can't beat that:)

To everyone I didn't get to see, I hope you had a good thanksgiving, and hopefully I will see you over Christmas break. Dana and Steph, this means you!:)

Word to the wise: Do not drive anywhere on the Sunday after thanksgiving. The interstates (I-81) turn into parking lots. It took Kevin and me over 8 hours to drive home from Leesburg (it only took us 4.5 hours to drive up last wednesday). We spend about 14 hours on the road on Sunday.

I'll make up the lost sleep eventually:) For now, its back to work.

November 21, 2005 - monday:(

Kevin and I worked on the house all day yesterday. We made wonderful progress on getting the siding up. The house is actually starting to look like a house:) However, we are still waiting for the trusses to show up (they were due last week), and we can't really move forward until they arrive. *sigh* Its not as if we were going to get much done this week anyway. We leave on wednesday for Syracuse to spend turkey day with my family, and we won't be back until late Sunday. (I am looking forward to the time off).

I think this is a neat shot of both the inside and outside of the house with the siding on it:

Below is a pic of me putting up the z-strip. Let me emphasize: as long as I am helping to build this house, I do not need to go to the gym. Climbing up and down that ladder all day and carrying tools and materials around is all I care for:)

November 19, 2005 - again....

I know I already posted today, but I have more pics of the house to share. Kevin and I worked on putting up siding today (if you can call t-111 siding...). We got about halfway done, so we should finish tomorrow. (By finish, I mean complete the part of the project that needs at least two people. We should be able to get far enough tomorrow so that Kevin can actually finish the rest by himself:) (Kevin has been doing what he can on the house by himself during the week while I am at work. This week it seemed like he drove all over North Carolina to get the materials we needed to finish the exterior walls and the roof).

Anyway, the first step in putting up the siding is like wrapping a big Christmas present. Merry Christmas to us:

I am taking votes/suggestions on what color to paint the house. I am thinking of painting it barn red w/ white accents to emphasize the whole "country" theme. Let me know what you think by posting a comment:)

T-111

We actually could have "finished" putting up the t-111 today, only we got a late start, and we had to take a break to go watch some lawn mower racing at the local circle track. No kidding.

November 19, 2005 - Its Official

My parking space at work has my name on it. Cool eh?

November 14, 2005 - and so it begins...

No further progress on the house to report. While we are waiting fo the trusses to arrive, Kevin and I have been putting our time towards other concerns. He has been working on hydropower projects, and I went to work!

Yup, today was my first full day of work. While I am pretty tired and a little daunted by all of the new information I need to learn, I feel pretty good about today. The people there have been really supportive, and I am looking forward to tomorrow. The day just flew by today. (We'll see how long that lasts:)

Don't be surprised if my blog entries get less frequent. I am an 8 to 5er now, so I'll have less to report, unless you want to hear about my day at work. If that is the case, call me or email me, and I will be glad to tell you all about it:)
